6. Taking Care of the Finances in the Local Church
Acts 11:29-30 indicate that the elders of a local church have the serious responsibility of overseeing the financial matters in that local church. Witness Lee comments:
The elders take care of the finances in a local church. Acts 11:29 and 30 say, The disciples, according as anyone of them was prospered, determined each one of them to send things for dispensing to the brothers dwelling in Judea; which also they did, sending it to the elders through the hand of Barnabas and Saul. This indicates that the finances of a local church are under the management of the elders. For this reason, 1 Timothy 3:3 says that an elder should not be fond of money. Money is a test to all men. An elder must be pure in money matters, especially since the church fund is under the elders management. (2165)
